Program Overview/Mission

The 人文学科项目 offers courses in philosophy, ethics, comparative literature, art history, museum studies, and film studies. Students pursuing a degree in Humanities will develop skills in analytical thinking, critical analysis, visual analysis, interpretive ability, and written expression. A cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural approach uniquely prepares graduates to engage in today's global environment.

Curriculum and Instruction

Undergraduate Program - Bachelor of Arts
The BA in Humanities provides a strong foundation in the Liberal Arts, emphasizing the development of skills such as critical and visual analysis and writing. 这些 skills are highly valued in the workplace and in post-graduate studies. 我们的毕业生 pursue law school, graduate studies, as well as careers in education, public service, advertising, technical writing, museum work, public humanities, and many other professions.

Concentrations include art history, film studies, global studies, healthcare ethics, history, literature, philosophy, pre-law, and religious studies. 通过课程 in the concentrations, students gain a grounding in the fundamental theories, concepts, practices, and methods employed in each of these fields of study.  

Our students are encouraged to pursue study abroad and archaeological fieldwork, and to engage in the Houston community through assignments at local museums and other 文化机构.

The graduate program in Humanities encourages interdisciplinary study with specialization in one of the following concentrations: studio arts, art history, museum studies, film studies, writing, and the history of ideas. A Masters in Humanities can provide a depth of knowledge to advance a teaching career, can prepare students for a career in the Arts, and can serve as the foundation for a Ph.D. program in a related discipline.
